County and Lions Club discussing properties

By LYN TREMBLAY

Norfolk County is talking about the Lions Club’s St. George Street properties.
Community Services General Manager Bill Hett says he and his staff are having on-going discussions with members of Port Dover Lions Club in regard to all their properties.
The service club recently announced that it would like to sell its St. George Street properties which include the lawn bowling green and tennis court facilities.
“They are moving to the next level of how they are going to be providing services to the community,” stated Mr. Hett. “This is an evolutionary process for the Port Dover Lions Club. They assert that there are only about 20 people using the lawn bowling facility. They are looking to liquidate and move their investments to other properties. We are entertaining discussions on the tennis court and also discussing the Misner Ball Park with them,” he commented.
Manager Hett added that when consultations with the service club have been concluded he will be bringing a report back to council, hopefully in a month to six weeks time.
Councillor Mike Columbus questioned whether or not the property would be a possible site for a new Port Dover library. (Mr. Hett was recently named the Chief Executive Officer of the Norfolk County Library Board and will be facilitating the review and restructuring of the system.)
“Yes, there is still a motion on the books to look at alternative sites,” stated Mr. Hett. “This is a location we will certainly take into consideration.”
