"Mellow Yellow Day" is Thursday

Pictured with a freshly home-baked Mellow Yellow dessert cake are (left to right) Lioness Club members Diana Hudspith, Cindy Villneff in the role of Doris Daffodil and Marilyn Davidson. Members of the Lioness Club’s Mellow Yellow ‘07 day committee include Co-chairs Lynda Connor and Marilyn Davisdon, Diana Hudspith, Ann Sharp, Betty Wells and Sheila Greene.
Several buses are coming tomorrow. They will bring visitors to town on Thursday to enjoy Daffodils In Dover Mellow Yellow ‘07 day.
It is organized by Port Dover Lioness club. Co-organizer Lynda Connor informed The Maple Leaf that visitors will be entertained with a conducted tour around town with a local guide aboard each bus, treated to a Knechtel perch dinner and salads in the community centre followed by a musical concert by the area’s Cameo Jazz Band. Some local merchants will be displaying merchandise also.
This annual event features specially baked Mellow Yellow desserts, sponsored by General Foods of Canada. One of the highlights of this annual event is the “Mellow Yellow desserts” which are part of the dinner. “People can sample one dessert or many desserts,” Co-chair Connor explains. The desserts are basically yellow in colour to fit in with the daffodil theme of the day. They are baked by members of Port Dover Lioness Club. As in other years, Port Dover Lioness members are assisted by some of our local Legion Ladies and also members of the Jarvis area Red Hat group. These ladies are really a help to make sure that guests get their tea and coffee promptly.
In the evening the local Lioness Club is partnering with Port Dover Composite School’s “Lakers” to stage a fashion show. It begins at 7 p.m., decorated in Mellow Yellow theme, in Port Dover Community Centre. Masters of ceremonies for the fashion show are former mayor Rita Kalmbach and CD 98.9 FM radio announcer Alan Duthie.
Fashions will be for all ages ... the models range in age from four to over 40.
Visitors will be seated at tables with refreshments and treats. Also there will be a 50/50 draw, and a ticket draw for prizes (like a Penny Table).
Those in attendance will get to judge “the best hat” created by a Port Dover Lioness Club member, with a prize offered.
The fashion show will feature clothing from local and area merchants, with appeal for all ages.
This event is the first joint venture between the local Lions Club and PDCS. Profits will be divided and go to local betterment.
Tickets for either, or both, events are available from the Tan Mar Shoppe and Stetson Jewellers in Port Dover.
